Soccer ScorePad Tutorial - Defining Matches

In this section, we’ll cover the steps involved in defining matches.

If you haven’t already done so, you must create at least two teams before you can create a match.  See the previous section if you don’t know how to do this.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will assume that you have two teams already defined: Arsenal and FC Barcelona.

Begin by tapping on the Matches button (the middle one) on the bottom of the page.  Your display should look like this:

Now, tap the “+” button at the top.  This will add a new match to the list and take you to the Match Details page.

The top field on the Match Details page is Match Status.  It should be indicating that the match is “Pending”, meaning it has not yet been played.  This field will change once the match has been played.

The next field is Home Team.  Tap on it to bring up the Team Selector page.  Choose the team that will be the home team for the match, then press the Done button.

Repeat the same procedure by tapping on the Visiting Team field, and choosing the visiting team for the match.

When you return to the Team Details page, note that the home team name and the visiting team name are now displayed in the appropriate fields.

Next, tap the Scheduled Start Time field.  This will bring up the Time Selector page.  Scroll to the date and time that the match is scheduled to be played, then press the Done button.

Now we need to specify how long the match will be.  Tap the Match Duration field.  This will bring up the Match Length page.  Scroll to the appropriate number, then press Done.

Note that the button with the triangle symbol on it in the upper right hand corner is now enabled.  This is the button that you will use later on when the match is being played.  It is enabled once you have specified the following mandatory fields:

  • Home Team
  • Visiting Team
  • Match Duration

All other fields are optional.

For the sake of this tutorial, though, we will continue to fill in all of the remaining fields.

Note that the Actual Start Time fields does not have a time in it.  A note there indicates that the value will be set when you start timing the match.

Tap on the Match Location field.  This will slide up a keyboard from the bottom of the display.  Type in the location of the match, then tap the “return” button to hide the keyboard.

Now tap on the Notes field.  This will slide in the Match Notes page where you can enter any textual information you like for the match.  In this example, we enter a note indicating that the match is a UEFA Champions League match.  Press Done when you are finished entering the note to return to the Match Details page.

That’s it.  You’ve successfully finished defining a match.  If you scroll down on the page, you can see the rosters for the home team and the visiting team.  In the next phase of the tutorial, you will use these rosters to select the starting lineup for the match.
