Soccer ScorePad Tutorial - Entering Events
Now that you have a match defined, lets presume the match is about to start and you wish to record match statistics while it is being played.
If you tap on the Current Match button at the bottom (the right-most button), the Current Match page will be displayed. If there is no current match under way, the page will look like this:

To designate a current match, navigate to the Matches view.

Now, tap on the match that we just created in the previous tutorial. This will bring up the Match Details page for the match.

Next, tap on the triangle button in the top right corner of the page. This will make the match you are look at the “current match”, and take you to the Current Match page. Your display should look like this.

Let’s prepare for the match to start by first making sure the jersey colors are correct. The current jersey color selections are shown as the colored square areas on either side of the current score. Tap on the red square to select Arsenal’s jersey color. This will bring up the Jersey Color selection page.

Remember when you were creating the team, you specified up to three jersey colors? The buttons along the bottom allow you to select between these three colors. Tap the middle button to select Jersey Color 2 for Arsenal.

Press Done to return to the Current Match page, then tap on FC Barcelona’s jersey color, and change it to Jersey Color 2 as well. Press Done when you’re finished.

Note that the jersey colors are now changed on the Current Match page.

The last thing we need to do to prepare for the match to start is to select the starting lineup for each team. It is not imperative that you do this before the match starts, but you will need to do it before you can create match reports later. Let’s do it now.
Tap on one of the team name buttons at the top; Arsenal in this example. This will bring up the Team Roster for Arsenal.

Now, tap on each player that is in the starting lineup. A check-mark will appear next to the player’s name to indicate that the player has been selected. Note that as you select players, the total number of players selected is updated at the top of the list. This helps you to make sure you have selected the correct number of players.

Press Done when you are finished selecting the starting players. Repeat the process for the visiting team.

You are now ready for the match to start. Wait for the starting whistle, then press the button labeled “Start the Match”. A confirmation alert will be displayed in case you accidentally pressed the button.

Note that there is no rush to tap the Yes button. ScorePad remembers what time you tapped the “Start the Match” button, so regardless of when you confirm by tapping Yes, the match clock will be based upon that time.
Go ahead and tap Yes to confirm that the match has started. The match time will now be advancing.

Next, let’s enter an event.
In this example, let’s presume that a yellow card has been issued to Arsenal player Andrey Arshavin. When the official holds up the card, tap the “Tap to enter an event” button. The time of the event will be recorded, and you will be taken to the Events page. Note that the time that you tapped the “Tap to enter an event” button is displayed near the top of the page.

Now, tap the “Home Caution” button. This will bring up the Caution page.

This page allows you to log yellow cards or red cards by selecting either of the two buttons near the top. For this example, leave it on the default setting of “yellow card”.
Now, scroll down through the roster to find Andrey Arshavin and tap his name. The selected player will be highlighted so that you know your selection has been made. Now tap the Done button to return to the Events page.

If more than one event happened at the same time, you would then enter those events as well before returning to the Current Match page. In this case, there are no other events to log at this time, so tap the Done button to return to the Current Match page.
At any time during the match, you can review the events that have been entered by tapping the File Folder button in the top right corner of the Current Match page. This will take you to the Match Events page. In our example, it will currently look like this:

Tap the Current Match button to return to the Current Match page.
Now let’s enter a player substitution. Let’s presume that Andrey Arshavin is replaced by Emmanuel Eboue. Tap the “Tap to enter an event” button, then tap the Home Sub button. This will bring up the Substitution Page.

The basic idea is to pick a player, then tap one of the buttons at the top to indicate if the selected player is coming on or going off. In our example, find Andrey Arshavin in the list and tap on his name. Then tap on the button next to the down-arrow to indicate that Andrey is coming off.

Next, tap on Emmanuel Eboue in the list, then tap on the button next to the up-arrow to indicate that Emmanuel is coming on.

Tap Done when you are finished, then press Done again on the Events page to return to the Current Match page.
A review of the Match Events page will now look like this, showing the yellow card that we previously entered, plus the substitution that we just finished entering:

Now, let’s presume that the first half of the match is complete. When you hear the official’s whistle to end the first half, tap on the “End First Half” button. A confirmation alert will be displayed in case you accidentally tapped the button.

Tap the Yes button to confirm that the first half is complete.

Now let’s prepare for the start of the second half. If you know which players are starting the second half, go ahead and select them by tapping on the team name buttons at the top, and selecting the second half starters just like we did before the first half was started. There’s no rush to do this right now - you can always set them while the match is being played if there is not enough time to do it before the second half begins.
When the official’s whistle sounds to begin the second half of the match, tap on the “Start Second Half” button. As before, a confirmation alert will be displayed. Tap Yes.

Now let’s enter a goal event. Presume that FC Barcelona’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic nets one just after the second half begins. Tap the “Tap to enter an event” button when the goal is scored. Next, tap the Visitor Goal button on the Events page. This will bring up the Goal Page.

On this page, you will select who scored the goal, and optionally give credit to two other players for assisting. You can also enter notes describing the goal if you like.
Tap on the Scored By: line to display the Player Selector page. Tap on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, then tap Done.

We won’t enter any notes or give credit for an assist, so go ahead and tap Done to return to the Events page, and note that there is now an indication on the Visitor Goal button that you have logged a goal.

Press Done to return to the Current Match page, and note that the score has now been updated.

Now let’s log a Red card, issued to Barcelona’s Puyol. Tap the “Tap to enter an event” button.

Then tap Visitor Caution to go to the Cautions page. Tap on the Red Card button at the top, then tap on Carles Puyol’s name in the list to assign the red card to him.

Press Done to return to the Events page, then tap on Visitor Sub so that we can indicate that Puyol has left the field.

In this case, we’ll tap on Puyol, then the down-arrow button to indicate that he is going off. However, we do not select a player to come on, as Puyol cannot be replaced, having received the red card. Tap Done to return to the Events page, then tap Done again to return to the Current Match page.

Continue to enter additional events during the match, just as we have done in the examples above.
When the official sounds the end of the match, tap the End Match button. Again, a confirmation alert will be displayed. Tap Yes.

The Current Match page will now indicate that the score is final, the time will be updated to show you the total match duration, and a “Close this match.” button will be displayed.

Tap “Close this match.” , then Yes to confirm. This will close the match and the Current Match page will become blank.

That’s it for logging match events.
